Honey Flash!!

Where I dump all my Cutie Honey fangirling!

Give this page a minute; it just needs to load the embedded videos!

I have had pretty positive experiences with Cutie Honey as it was something I grew up with and still love some of the adaptations of it! My only few nitpicks is that I find it rather difficult to watch certain versions like Cutie Honey (1973), Cutie Honey Universe and The Live series as they sexualize her when she's sixteen in those ones, and since the franchise is vintage, you also come across the annoying perverted men trope.

Nitpicks aside, I do have a soft spot for the franchise as a whole because not only had the 1973 one sort of been the blueprint of the magical girl genre as we know it today, it was able to mash together magical girl and dark sci-fi, which are two of some of my favorite genres and it felt like I literally grew up alongside of it starting with Cutie Honey Flash all the way to Re:Cutie Honey! I also appreciate in some versions fully embraced the yuri aspects that was always lingering in the series since the very beginning, and the cameo Go Nagai characters like Devilman and Mazinger Z thrown in the mix for shits and giggles.

Shin Cutey Honey (All Episodes)

"In hibernation for years, the body-shifting android Cutey Honey is brought out of her self-imposed stasis to fight the evil Dolmek and his minions of monsters."-IMDB

Shin Cutey Honey (or also known as New Cutey Honey in the west) is an 8 episode OVA (original video animation), but it was originally supposed to be 12; the series was discontinued and that's that's why it feels unfinished. Shin Cutey Honey is also a continuation of the original 1973 version 100 years later, but even if you have never seen the original, the experience of watching this won't feel like you missed anything. Although I think Re:Cutie Honey era has my favorite interpretations of the main cast, I do have this one as a close tie as my favorite interpretations of Honey herself and the overall darker 90s sci-fi vibe of the show.

Cutie Honey (2004)

"A mysterious organization known as Panther Claw make their presence known by terrorizing Tokyo and giving the cops a run for their money. Police are further baffled by the appearance of a lone cosplaying vigilante who thwarts all of Panther Claw's evil schemes before disappearing. That vigilante is Honey Kisaragi, the result of the late Dr. Kisaragi's prize experiment. A master of disguise, Honey can instantly alter her physical appearance and outfits. But with a push of the heart-shaped button on her choker, she transforms herself into Cutie Honey, the scantily clad, sword-wielding warrior of love."- Wikipedia

Re:Cutie Honey (All Episodes)

Re:Cutie Honey is a 3 episode OVA (original video animation) that is based off the Cutie Honey live action movie, but it does add a lot more content, making the viewing experience feel like its own thing. Both the live action movie and Re:Cutie Honey is my favorite interpretation of Honey, Natsuko, Sanji and the Panther Claw Four Gods.
